We've Survived the First Week

What a trip!

Nothing can prepare you for the actuality of a newborn. Thankfully, he is a sweet babe and he sleeps through the night (except for feeding and changing). My only complaint is the loss of pregnancy hormones, I feel close to the end of my rope sometimes. Thanks to Mac for caring for us both at this first week.

Thanks Mom & Dad for the chocolate, socks and Andy Warhol bag. Here we have a picture of Buddy and baby sharing the socks (better than Jaclyn and I ever shared anything).

For those who have been wondering if we'd ever name this child: we have!

William Huckleberry Bowerman

Little Will is what I call him. Big Uncle Will is expected this afternoon from Fossil.

Well, Little Will is telling me he's hungry. Thanks for posting comments!

4 Days Old

We have been getting settled in with our new little one, what a calm and sweet baby he is!

Things are quiet around here as I am still healing up and not allowed to stray from the kitchen.

Here we've got some new pics, the woman in the leather jacket is Liz, the bad-ass midwife.

We won't be back to Oakridge for at least another week but it sounds like it's beautiful there right now with the snow.

We'll be posting again soon! Leave comments if you need to get a hold of us. Love, Danielle

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas Day!

We are glad to share pictures and the story of our new babe! He was born Sunday the 23rd at 9:23 pm in Bill & Barbara’s kitchen in Eugene. He’s rather big and we had a hard time getting him too come out, but after some strategic cutting and assistance he arrived fully awake and attentive.

How big was he? 9lbs 11oz in weight and 22 inches long!

So right after his natural and successful home birth we went to the hospital to get mom stiched up. But, alls well that ends well! (no pun intended)

Presently we are back in the warm and cozy kitchen getting to know our beautiful and contented baby boy, who, by the way, is not officially named yet.

Enjoy the photos, we’ll get more up as we go. Love and thanks to everyone!

Happy Solstice!

Shortest day of the year today! Day 14 past the due date. We've figured out the baby is not here yet because it's a little Capricorn patiently waiting for the right moment.

Willamette Pass is open today, also. It 24 degrees and clear on the webcam at the moment. Very exciting.

Mac is pruning fruit trees now in the sunshine. Kris and I just took an hour long walk to get things moving... We'll keep you posted.

Making due with Buddy for now!

Waiting is the hardest part of the pregnancy! We are 12 days overdue and ready to have it. It's a good thing it didn't come two days ago, I have been informed, for horrible astrological alignment reasons. And it was good it didn't happen the day before that because I had a terrible flu.

We are continuing on as if life is normal. The pictures are of Danielle returning from the chickens(eggs in left hand) and of Buddy trying on the baby's new socks. They didn't stay on long. We hope everybody is well and miss you all. -Mac

Walks and New Tricks

No bambini yet. We are having a great time on the farm, taking lots of walks. Buddy learned to carry the paper up the hill. If he could just learn to go and get it by himself, past the scary neighbor dog, that would be great. We are pruning fruit trees today. Beautiful day.

Also hoping for more snow. Friends have been skiing up the 58, but report coverage to be 4-10" . Good time for rock skis!

Lots of bulbs are sprouting on the farm, makes it feel like spring.

Shop reports things are picking up a bit, with some ski sales and holiday related items. The guys are rocking it out and we are appreciative to have such great people to cover for us while away.
Peace.

We're Taking Bets

We in the family have been guessing the big day... I am 1 week overdue now and still no sign of our little one venturing out into the world. Mac and I have had great hikes with friends Heidi and Neil the last few days but the baby is on it's own schedule of arrival (as Beth pointed out).

But the weather is wonderful here! Sorry to those of you in Michigan, I don't envy your current ice storm.

So Mac's guess is tomorrow (14th), mine is Sunday, Kris & Sandie say Monday, and Tom thinks Tuesday is it. The prize is yet undetermined. I want Sweet Life cake, others ask for carrots and foot rubs.

Hope to have some news soon!

Teaching Mac to Blog

We just met with our midwife, and she said everything looked good. Three and a half days overdue, and still waiting for action.

For fun and excitement we planted garlic and blogged us blogging. Whee!

Our Dear Whittle Dog

I thought I'd post a few shots of Whittle to share a smile. Here he is enjoying a game of fetch with Jaclyn at our wedding. Such a happy guy.

Still no baby yet, but I have had a couple tremors...

Due Date Came & Went

No action on the baby front, we are now Overdue, like a library book.

We have experienced a loss in the family in the meantime, Whittle, the old farm dog passed away on Thursday. It's very sad for all who knew him.

On a lighter note, I've posted a great picture of three rowdy guys who rode from Oakridge to Crescent Lake Junction in July. Such hardcores.

Puppy Babies

My very first knitting project has just been completed! A cute little red wool sock. Now I just need three more days to make it's mate.

I must be getting closer to having the baby because I am dreaming of having puppies and kittens. Buddy makes it easy to imagine, too.

We are all just hanging around the house and waiting. I am hoping the baby comes today since it's my mom's birthday.

Hello from Babyland

Update from the homestead: 1 1/2 weeks until due date. Here in pictures: Buddy is saying 'hi' to the baby on a recent hike near Hill's Creek with Mac and Jeff and girls.
And then Mac & I on the beach in Michigan in September.

News reel.

Mac and Danielle have taken off to Coburg, where they will be having their baby. The shop is in the caring hands of those who work here, and we are managing just fine, but its not the same without Mac, Danielle, and Buddy here to keep things rolling. I'm encouraging them to post on this blog, and keep us up to date on the happenings as the birth gets nearer.

Add a comment to tell us what you think of our new blog if you like.

Ready for Adventure

First posting for the Mountain Mercantile Blog!

During the past three years we have transformed an unused truck repair garage into our humble shop. We have packed it full of skis, bikes, Carhartt clothing, tools, lights, camping equipment, and everything else we like to use outdoors. We have met thousands of friends from the community and around the world, and helped hundreds if not thousands of people find their way to the local trails and camping spots within our bioregion.

Our shop is dedicated to providing excellent equipment and expertise for outdoor enthusiasts, and everyday residents of Oakridge. We strive to provide a wide selection of price points, while retaining a high standard of quality.

It is our hope that this blog will help to connect our friends, inform those interested in our shop of the current goings on, and provide a platform for posting pictures and stories of the excellent adventures we, and those around us, embark upon. Feel free to leave your comments, and suggest links that are helpful and relevant.

Cheers!!
